Historically an “X” mark became a common practice as a substitute for a handwritten signature. The use of an “X” as a signature was not only a practical solution to the problem of literacy but also a significant aspect of social trust. Each artwork uses the form X, colour and light as an emotive language to imbue a moral code for the global psyche.
